Mwamba RFC Head Coach John Mbai answers kenyacup.com’s five questions ahead of the new season that kicks off on Saturday 8 November.

   1. How has Mwamba been preparing for the new season?

Preparation have coming along well. We have been exploring varied conditioning disciplines that target rugby specific needs.

We’ve also been working at expanding our team profile through skill development so as to  have a versatile game profile.

2. Any new players coming through the ranks? Players to watch out for?

There are quite a number of exciting new players that we’ll be keen on seeing how they carry on as the league progresses. I’m equally excited about a number of players who previously played in the Eric Shirley Shield and Nationwide league and will be making their Kenya Cup debut.

3. What is your take on the upcoming season?

I think it will be a tight season and the fight for the top four will go down to the wire. At the semi- final stage I think it will be anybody’s ball game.

4. What are your team’s expectations for the coming season?

Last season the club had a disappointing run in the league and this after winning the Enterprise Cup the previous year. We want to work towards consistency in success.

Our first aim is to improve from last season and set a platform towards success for posterity. In doing so if we can pick up some silverware just as we did in the 7’s circuit then that will be great.
5. Your parting shot ahead of the new season?

All the best to all teams competing in all the three league levels and may the best teams win
