Leading 22-3 at the interval, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology won the third tier KRU Nationwide league final with a 27-6  full time result over Kitale in Kakamega on Saturday 19 May 2018.

Playing before their home crowd, MMUST broke the deadlock five minutes into the game when Felix Okumu went over for the game’s opening try.

Former Mwamba winger Jeremy Chimwani got Kitale’s only points on the board, drilling home a penalty eight minutes later to bring the score to 5-3 but MMUST landed three tries from Samuel Mbeche, Ian Mukazi and Okumu who landed his brace with Derick Okisai converting to see the side hold a nineteen point lead at the interval.

Morris Marathi’s try immediately after the restart took MMUST 27-3 up before Chimwani drilled home Kitale’s second penalty eight minutes into the second half. MMUST were happy to dominate the game and secure the result that sees them join fellow Kakamega side Western Bulls in the 2018/19 second tier KRU Championship alongisde Kitale.
