Kisumu RFC lifted the 2018-2019 KRU Championship Trophy on Saturday 18th May after seeing off hosts Western Bulls 23-5 in a match played at the Kakamega Showgrounds.

The Brave Hearts held on to their early 13-0 lead scored off two tries and one penalty kick to the breather before adding two more tries in the second half while conceding just one try to secure their first Championship title.

On their way to the final, they finished in the fourth place position booking a playoff date with Masinde Muliro University on the 27th April. Kisumu emerged the 26-8 winners in a very muddy affair securing their semifinal slot against Catholic Monks at the CUEA University on 11th May. Both sides matched each other in attack and defense on paper since the match ended at eleven all at full time. In the extra time, a penalty against the hosts saw Kisumu split the posts with three points for them to claim the much needed win that promoted them to the Kenya Cup league come 2019-2020 season.

Western Bulls on the other hand were awarded a walkover in their playoff match against Mombasa RFC who were unable to honour their fixture. Bulls made the journey to the Capital City to face USIU in the semifinal-USIU had finished second at the conclusion of the regular league earning themselves a direct semifinal. Bulls’ resilience saw them beat their hosts 22-16 to earn their Kenya Cup 2018-2019 season slot.
