Kenya Rugby Union has sent a delegation of coaches, referees, and team management officials to Stellenbosch, South Africa, for the Continental Association Programme (CAP) High Performance Training taking place from 10th to 17th May 2026.
The week-long programme brings together rugby development personnel from across Zimbabwe, Uganda and Kenya, with the aim of strengthening technical expertise, leadership, officiating standards, and high-performance management within the sport.
Representing Kenya in the coaching programme are Simon Jawichre, Sheila Chajira, and Mercy Migongo, who will join six other coaches from Uganda and Zimbabwe in advanced coaching and player development sessions.
In the referee development programme, Kevin Wambugu, Anthony Ndong, and Mercy Dudi will undergo specialized officiating training focused on modern match management, game interpretation, fitness, and consistency in decision-making.
Meanwhile, Joseph Guchu, Camilyne Oyuayo, and Juliet Kamau will participate in the Team Manager and Liaison High Performance Programme, which is designed to enhance operational management, team coordination, athlete welfare, logistics, and high-performance support structures within rugby environments.
The CAP High Performance Programme is part of ongoing efforts to elevate rugby standards across the African continent by investing in education, mentorship, and capacity building for technical officials and support staff. The initiative also provides participants with opportunities to share experiences, build regional networks, and adopt global best practices in rugby development and administration.
