Champions Kabras Sugar built on a 12-8 half time lead to reach the Kenya Cup semis with a 21-18 win over hosts Resolution Impala Saracens at the Impala Club on Saturday 1 April 2017.

George Okowa opened the scoring for the hosts two minutes into the game, his unconverted effort giving his side a 5-0 lead but Kabras, dominant at the breakdown, responded with Hillary Mwanjilwa scoring off the rolling maul, Jone Kubu sure with the conversion after sixteen minutes.

Okowa’s 26th minute penalty put the Sarries but Kabras scored just before the break, again from the maul, scrum half Edwin Achayo with the touchdown to see his side lead 12-8 at half time.

The Sarries were dealt a blow when scrum half Sam Onsomu was dispatched to the sin bin, Kabras making the advantage count and extending the lead through the boot of Kubu, his two penalties putting the visitors 18-8 up thirteen minutes into the second half.

Okowa landed his second penalty two minutes late to cut the deficit to 18-11 and it was soon Kabras’ turn to be reduced to 14 men, Sava Racigi yellow carded on the hour mark.

Kubu drill home his third penalty to give the champions a 21-11 lead with five minute to play before Goerge Okowa landed at the death, Nato Simiyu’s conversion reducing the scoreline for the hosts as referee Constant Cap soon sounded the whistle for full time.

The sugarmen will face Menengai Cream Homeboyz in the semifinal at the Jamhuri Park on Saturday 8 April.
