Leading 27-7 at half time, Menengai Cream Homeboyz coasted to a 48-17 win over the Strathmore Leos in the Kenya Cup’s opening fixture at the Impala Club on Saturday 5 November 2016.

The deejays dominated from kickoff, Kelvin Masai drilling home a penalty for a 3-0 lead before Collins Shikoli went over moments later, his unconverted effort putting the deejays 8-0 up.

The Leos were on the ropes at this point of the match, out thought, out muscled, out scored and fell 13-0 behind after Nelson Sangura scored at the corner after superb handling from the Homeboyz backs.

Elisha Okello’s converted pushover try ensued before the Leos finally regrouped, inching their way into Homeboyz territory. Brian Nyikuli received the ball on the burst, scoring under posts with Patrick Muiruri converting for a 20-7 score but the deejays would have the final say on the first half proceedings, Collins Musera scoring off a rolling maul, Wafula adding his second conversion for a 27-7 score at the interval.

A second half treble of tries from Kelvin Masai, Philip Ikambili and Okello’s brace complimented by Wafula’s three conversions saw Homeboyz go 46-7 up before the Leos landed a second try through Brian Munene to cut the deficit to 46-12. Ginton Adongo landed a third try as the Leos sought to bring respectability to the scoreline, the scores 48-17 at full time.
