Collins Injera scored a hat trick as Stanbic Mwamba beat the Strathmore Leos 47-25 at the Madaraka Grounds.

The hosts were first on the scoreboard as Gideon Makumi drilled in a penalty for the Leos in the early minutes of the first half. Tony Omondi was next on the scoreboard as he landed Mwamba’s first try and he added the conversion giving his side a 7-3 lead. In the twenty minutes that followed to the end of the first half, Mwamba scored two successfully converted tries through Brian Otieno and Collins Injera while Strathmore scored one for the half time scores to read 21-15 in favour of Kulabu.

Five tries were scored in the second half, four coming from Mwamba’s Billy Odhiambo, Steve Mang’ondu with Injera scoring twice; Of the four tries, Tony Omondi only missed one conversion bringing Mwamba’s total to 47. Strathmore’s Alfred Obure intercepted a Mwamba pass and scored his side’s only try in this half right under the posts, the conversion however sailed wide.

This sees Mwamba move up to sixth place on the Kenya Cup log with 17 points while Strathmore remain 12th with three points.

Elsewhere Nondies bounced back to their winning ways as they handed the Resolution Impala Saracens their second loss of the season with a 22-20 score in a fixture played at the RFUEA Grounds. This match was preceded by a 36-21 win by the Kenya Harlequins over Top Fry Nakuru.

Defending Champions KCB RC humbled Mean Machine at the Den as they beat them 50-3 while Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC beat Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 35-23. Away in Kakamega, Kabras Sugar RFC remain unbeaten as they beat the Menengai Oilers 41-5 at the ASK Kakamega Showgrouds.

Championship Round Up

USIU remain unbeaten after Week 6 as they beat Kisumu 18-10 in a match played at the USIU Grounds while second place Western Bulls dropped to third place after suffering their first loss of the season in the hands of the Catholic Monks. Monks who have now moved up to second place beat the visitors 27-10.

Ngong RFC remains sixth on the log after their 19-10 win over Kitale RFC who have dropped to the eleventh position. University of Eldoret have moved to the 9th position as they beat Egerton Wasps 22-11 in Njooro. Wasps performance drops them from 9th to 10th position on the KRU Championship log

In the Coast Region, Hosts Regional Logistics Mombasa RFC beat Resolution Kisii 10-5 a performance that moves them from the eight position to the seventh while Kisii drops from fourth to fifth position. South Coast Pirates 3-8 loss to Masinde Muliro University sees them remain last on the Championship log although MMUST drops to the eighth position due to Mombasa’s performance, despite of the win.
