Former Kenya Cup side Mombasa kept their second tier KRU Championship survival hopes alive with a 17-3 victory at home to USIU Martials in a rescheduled fixture at the Mombasa Sports Club on Saturday 8 February 2020.

The 1997 Enterprise Cup champions came into this fixture placed 11th on the log, with a game in hand and well aware of the fact that victory would lift them above Eldoret.

Converted tries from Chrisant Ojwang and Mike Nyambok as well as Joe Musyoki’s two conversions and a penalty did the business for the coastal side who only conceeded three points off the boot of USIU’s Eliud Mulakoli.

Following the result, Mombasa are now place 10th on 22 points, two clear of 11th placed Eldoret with three rounds of the regular season still to play.

Mean Machine had earlier defeated Egerton Wasps 18-15 in another rescheduled fixture played on Wednesday 5 February 2020 in Njoro.
