The Kenya Harlequins were Sure, Strong and Superior in the Ngong Road Derby played at the RFUEA Grounds. Quins secured their Kenya Cup semifinal slot after beating the Resolution Impala Saracens 29-24 booking a date with KCB RC on 11th May at the KCB Sports Club Ruaraka.
In Nakuru, Stanbic Mwamba came back from trailing 8-12 at the breather to secure their 18-17 win over hosts Top Fry Nakuru at the NAC. Mwamba were first on the scoreboard after drilling in a penalty to give them an early 3-0 lead over the hosts. This however shortlived after Nakuru’s Kevin Omiyo bulldozed his way over the whitewash with Ominde converting for the hosts to take the front row seat with a 7-3 lead. Collins Injera and Emmanuel Mboya traded a try each in the last ten minutes of the first half, both going unconverted for Nakuru to lead 12-8 at the breather.
A Geoffrey Ominde grabber kick saw Nakuru extend their lead to 17-8 but Mwamba thirst for the semifinal was quenched as Injera landed his brace with a successful conversion followed by a successful penalty kick that saw Kulabu leap frog to a 18-17 lead. A scoreline they held on to, to the end.
Mwamba will head down to Kakamega to meet Kabras Sugar RFC on the 11th of May.
Resolution Impala Saracens 23-15 win over Top Fry Nakuru II in the ESS league sets up their date with KCB Cubs on the 11th of May while Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC head down to Kakamega to meet Kabras Sugar. The DJz silenced Quins with a 38-0 win at the Jamhuri Grounds.
In the KRUChampionship league, Kisumu RFC beat the Masinde Muliro University 26-8 at the Mamboleo Showground while Western Bulls were awarded a walk over since their opponent Mombasa RFC were unable to honour the fixture.
In the Championship Qualifiers, Northern Suburbs, Eldoret RFC, Moi University and Maseno University progress to the semifinals after beating their opponents Jaramogi University, Stingers, JKUAT and TUM; 41-0, 8-3, 27-17 and 23-20 respectively.
