The curtains fall on the pre-season Impala Floodlit when the tournament’s most dominant team over the past decade takes on a side that has not won the title in a decade.

Defending champions KCB are eight time winners of the tournament that was first played in 1983. Six of their titles have been won since 2013 while Nondescripts, winners of the inaugural tournament 39 years ago claimed their last title in 2012.

These sides last met in the Floodies final on Saturday 26 October 2013, Oliver Mang’eni steering KCB to a 28-3 win over the then champions. The bankers point scorers on the day were Allan Omuka who landed a brace of tries, Elphas Adunga and Dennis Mwanja who responded with a try each with Peter Mutai adding two penalties and a conversion as Filden Sinei scored the sole points for Nondies from a penalty.

Nondies had the previous year won the title with a last gasp try from the fleet footed Calvins Biko at the stroke of full time to beat defending champions Mean Machine 17-12 and clinch their first floodlit title in since 2002.

Their paths to the 2022 final.

KCB began their title defense with a 14-10 quarterfinal win over Kenya Harlequin before edging Blak Blad 14-3 in last weekend’s semifinal action.

Nondescripts were 33-7 quarterfinal winners over Impala before defeating Menengai Oilers 16-11 in the semis.

This fixture will be preceded by the third place playoff between Menengai Oilers and Blak Blad.

Other matches on the day will pit Nakuru Universities Combined against USIU Martials in the Varsity final while Impala and Northern Suburbs battle in the women’s final.
