The 2021/2022 Kenya Cup match day five saw KCB Sports Club host the only two fixtures in Nairobi: Blakblad versus Mwamba kicking off at 1:00pm before hosts KCB took on Impala Saracens at 3:00pm.

Mwamba beat Blakblad 23-10 to secure their first victory of the season. It was Blakblad who took on an early 3-0 lead over Mwamba but 12 minutes later, the black shirts responded with a converted try; they held on to their 7-3 lead over Blad to the breather.

In the second half, Mwamba got their house in order as they landed two tries; one converted try through Tony Owuor with Charles Kuka adding the extras while the second one that was scored just at the stroke of full time was unconverted. Owuor’s try was sandwiched by two penalty kicks off Kuka’s boot, he sealed off Mwamba’s performance with their third successful penalty kick. Blak Blad managed to land a converted try in the opening minutes of the second half but that was the end of their contribution on the scoresheet.

The match ended 10-28 in Mwamba’s favour.

The second fixture kicked off exactly at 3:00pm as hosts KCB faced Impala Saracens. The Bankers started off slow as they landed two converted tries in the first half through Andrew Amonde with Darwin Mukidza adding the extras.

The second half, KCB scored seven converted tries as Isaac Njoroge, Peter Kilonzo, Michael Kimwele, Oscar Simiyu and Manasseh Oduor landed a try each with Darwin Mukidza converting six of the seven tries. This is KCB’s third victory this season as they have so far registered two wins, one draw and still have a game in hand against Mwamba. For Impala however, this is their fifth consecutive loss.

The full time score reading 47-0 to KCB.

Other fixtures on Saturday saw Homeboyz inflict further misery on Topfry Nakuru, defeating the 2013 and 2014 champions 33-15 at the Jamhuri Park as Strathmore Leos edged out Masinde Muliro 25-24 in an entertaining fixture at the Strathmore University in Madaraka.  Menengai Oilers were made to fight for the 16-15 result against Kenya Harlequin in Nakuru. The match between Kabras Sugar and Nondescripts was postponed.
