South Coast Pirates registered a statement 102-3 win over University of Eldoret Trojans in KRU Championship action in Diani on Saturday 2 March 2024, a result that gave their home semifinal qualification hopes a big boost.

Following the result, the Pirates are third on 36 points in the second tier Championship, level on points with second placed Masinde Muliro who were held to a 3-3 draw in the Kakamega Derby at the Masinde Muliro University.

Masinde Muliro’s draw handed pole position to the Daystar Falcons who went top of the log on 39 points following their 24-10 win over USIU Martials.

The race for the two home semifinal slots is between these three sides.

Elsewhere, Impala and Western Bulls did just enough to make the quarterfinal playoffs following their weekend outings. Impala saw off Kabarak University 34-16 to consolidate fourth place as Bulls draw with Masinde Muliro means that the worst they can finish is sixth, which is the final playoff slot.

Meanwhile, former Kenyan glamor club Mean Machine, winners of the Kenya Cup in 1977,1989 and 1990 lost at home to Mombasa, the 25-24 result seeing them stay bottom of the log. They must win their final fixture next weekend away to the JKUAT Cougars to avoid relegation to the third tier KRU Nationwide regional league.
